How do I find a good NLP Trainer

NLP Trainer Matt Hudson

Matt HudsonThis is a question that I have been asked for years and here is how I would look at it:

Good- is always going to be subjective, what might be a good trainer to one maybe a bad trainer to another. In order to define “good” in this instance ask yourself “what do I want out of this training and can this trainer supply it? This way you have an outcome set and you can check in with your trainer or training organisation before hand.

NLP- originally was set up as a modelling project; many NLP trainings seem to lean towards specific strategies within the NLP tool bag, without really taking the time to get a firm understanding of the modelling process. The way that you take on board information is critical here because some trainings are seven days. This sounds great because you can commit to one weeks learning and run with it. The challenge is that you have to have an automatic convincer strategy, for obvious reasons, if this is really going to help you. Feedback from the other convincer strategies suggests that this is not the optimum for them so you might want to consider what you need before you are convinced that you know something.

Also have you come for:

Personal development- which NLP is an excellent therapeutic tool. Business development- as a communication and persuasion tool. Zero Development-you just want the certificate for your CV.

Being honest with yourself about the three points above will help you in setting your outcome.

Trainer- subjective yet again but let me see if I can make it easier for you. A good trainer should be able to take the subject knowledge and break it down into manageable learning chunks for the student. A good trainer will be very flexible in their approach and incorporate many different learning styles in order to maximize the knowledge integration by the student.

A good trainer will journey with the learner on a voyage of discovery, appreciating that the student has the knowledge and only needs to have it drawn out of their mind, so that they can know that they know.

A good trainer in one field does not necessitate that they are good trainers within the NLP arena as NLP is also a set of skills that should be developed. The good NLP trainer should be able to demonstrate all of the NLP methodology within a practical setting. In other words not only talk the talk but walk the walk!

You could look for referrals via Facebook, Twitter, NLP Forums or recommendation. Maybe you can watch the trainer on You tube.

The ultimate point that I want you to get is this all learning is connected to how you feel, so make sure that you check out how you feel before you sign up with who you think is a good NLP trainer.

Summary: Make sure you know exactly what the trainer is offering before you pay for the training. Listen to your feelings and do some research.
